Now click on the link and you will see an option to install Internet Explorer 8. Here you will see a message saying that some updates have been hidden. Open Windows Update on your XP mode and choose the custom option. So, you need to update and install IE 8 manually from Windows Update. So, if the Windows XP mode automatically updated the Internet Explorer 6 to Internet Explorer 8, many applications may not run. Therefore the update has been disabled on the Windows XP mode by default. Windows XP mode was actually designed for running legacy applications that wouldn’t run on Windows 7 and many of such legacy applications require the older version of Internet Explorer i.e. Your Windows XP mode virtual machine won’t find the update for existent Internet Explorer 6 browser on the system because that update has been disabled by default in Windows XP mode.
But if you are running Windows XP on a virtual machine, you might have noticed that your system doesn’t show any updates for the existing Internet Explorer 6. But don’t worry you can still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. Its because Internet Explorer 9 uses Direct2D for hardware acceleration which is not available on Windows XP. But Internet Explorer 9 only works on Windows 7 or Windows Vista and not on Windows XP or any older version of Windows. Internet explorer 9 has already become one of the favored browsers among Windows users.
